What is this:
You may have heard of Epic [Mega] Games? Well they have their own digital storefront now, and it's divisive and it's got games. This thread is just a test to see if META can discuss the good and the bad in one place. Read on.
The Good:
Epic has a lot of money, like "Fuck you" money piled 0n top of a Scrooge McDuck money bin of "Fuck you" money. You can thank fortnite for that mainly, and of course licensing their Unreal engine to every corner of the Earth. The store was started (in theory) to provide devs a better cut of the sales pie than other stores, 88% of a sale to devs, 12% to Epic. We can't argue that this is a good thing in theory. More money for devs means more games for us.

Check out the current free titles here
Sales - Not as good as free, but damn can a $10 off coupon go a long way to make some games single digit prices. With their ever expanding regional pricing and occasionally useful payment method variety, you can snag some new titles for cheap.

The Bad:
Exclusives - Remember that 'fuck you money' from earlier? Well Epic didn't just build a store front, they also felt the best way to fill that storefront was to go to devs/publishers and buy timed exclusives. This wouldn't necessarily be bad if Epic was helping publish or pay for development at the beginning, but a lot of the titles were already launching elsewhere, were crowdfunded with promised keys to an EGS competitor/DRM free, and Epic isn't publishing them. This not only sets a negative precedent for PC gaming that even big publishers had moved away from. This has caused devs big and small to fight with their audience and it has screwed over those who have crowd funded some titles, and crowdfunding as a whole.
Exclusives aren't required to be on EGS, but having to wait 3-12 months (if not longer) for a title to come to a different platform that may be better suited to you, the gamer, is a pain.
The client/store - So, remember when Steam launched 16 years ago? Or when Origin or Uplay launched? How about Microsoft's latest frankenstein of a games store for pc?
Well, EGS is now, two years after launch known as much for having as many development roadmaps as it does QOL/basic features. It's not great, and should be held to a higher standard. It allows you to buy games, but not much else. Still doesn't have a functional cart. To quote the owner of an EGS competitor: These things, they take time!
Racism - while not a big issue here so much, there are circles on the internet that have taken their anger towards Epic and EGS and extrapolated Tencent's stock involvement into some kind of racist conspiracy that demeans the Chinese. Their government may be led by an evil Winnie the Pooh, but that doesn't excuse racism and it's terrible that this has occurred.
and The Sweeney

The man behind Epic, the Unreal Engine, and the EGS initiative. To say that he's more divisive than the store is an understatement.
He's often seen removing his foot from his mouth on twitter trying to do PR for the store or the latest exclusive, which he is not very good at, thus lodging his foot farther into his mouth.
A lot of the flack EGS has gotten is due to the rift created by the reality of the pc gaming world and the world Sweeney espouses for EGS. Yes he does great things with his Unreal Engine initiatives and educational funding, while simultaneously ignoring the cognitive dissonance of taking Apple to court over a walled garden.

EGS And You
So why the new thread when we had one already? Well this is more OT-esque in layout, the other thread was just posted for the original announcement (and yes, MetaCouncil DOES predate EGS by several months, we didn't start as reaction). This thread is also to start fresh, 250 pages of anything, there is going to be animosity and built up tension for such a divisive place. This thread is for everyone- you don't like what Epic and EGS are doing, let us know why! Just buy a new game exclsuive to the store with that $10 coupon? Let us know how it is, some of us actually play the games we buy (*citation needed) and are always looking for new games.
I'll steal from and paraphrase Monooboe from the original thread : Don't criticize what other members do with the store and just concentrate on shitting on EGS itself. No one wants, deserves or needs a lecture on their purchasing habits, this is a gaming community [and anime harem] and we're mostly all adults, direct your anger where it belongs: the devs who take deals, Epic, and the store. Alternatively, shit on epic in the OGEGS thread and discuss the store and its deals/games here.
