New week, new thread! What are you playing?

I am totally addicted to Paper Mario Origami King. I couldn't stop myself from playing the game during the week. Level design, writing, music... everything is great except the tear-jerking normal battles because they are so boring to play. The disparity in effort is honestly puzzling because the game really goes places sometimes. It has done something that was never, ever done in a Mario game before, and the developers completely nailed it at their first try.

I still haven't finished the game. but it is becoming one of my favorite Switch titles. So good. :coffee-blob:

Dishonoured 2! As I've previously written, I love these games and returning to them is always comforting. Once Im through with it I will most likely continue Cyberpunk, or maybe, finally continue BG3.

I'm still playing Trails of Cold Steel IV. 105 hours now. I am in the finale at least.

The pacing has its ups and downs, but I do still love the special kind of craziness that comes with really late-game party building in an epic RPG. When you can fully exploit the systems, have literally hundreds of equipment items to choose from, and can create completely OP min/maxing builds.

And it doesn't get much more "epic lategame" than the conclusion to a 400 hour saga, where all your characters are level 140+.

I'm close to the end of my Elden Ring replay to get ready for the Erdtree DLC. I was pretty down on it with my initial playthrough but I've realized that is simply because I was doing a pure caster build which is pain. Now I'm a weeb with a katana.

I literally just finished Crow Country and it was great, still don't know what I'll be playing next.
I bought this and played it for an hour last night. I like it. The lo-fi look is great on Steam Deck.

Making my way through Horizon Forbidden West. I think I'm a bit over half way done. Overall I'm liking this game a bit better than the first one. The main story is not quite as gripping, though it's doing a pretty decent job with world building. It's just a bit hard to follow up on the great mystery plot of the first game with its amazing reveal. The side quests are really great in this one, writing and character work is superb, from voice acting to animations. Liking it a lot. Combat is so-so, but I can't be mad on any game that lets me shoot with bow and arrow at giant mechas. Kinda wish the elemental system was much simpler and streamlined. It's a bit of a cluster fuck. Outside of electric and acid damage, I pretty much just ignore it and go for the usual strategy of shooting large bits and laying basic traps.

Making a bit of progress with Judgment. I want to do all the side quests, and it's getting a little bit annoying how this requires getting all friends, which in turn can be very finicky. I get the impression the devs really wanted to make sure you can't just rush your way through side quests and had to "earn" them, but this feels a bit overboard. Visually and in terms of writing this is the best that anything Yakuza has ever been. If it was easier to get sub quests, then this might even compete with Yakuza 0.

Also on the final case of Ace Attorney: Dual Destinies, which is part of the Apollo Justice Trilogy. It's funny how little I remember of this game, despite having finished it years and years ago (on Android I think). The character of Athena is a great addition to the team and despite Apollo no longer being the sole protagonist, the game is actually doing a pretty great job of characterising him. Simon Blackquill makes for a great foil too. Really great follow up to Apollo Justice.

Finished Paper Mario Origami King. Combat sucks, but great at everything else. Ending was beautiful. Really enjoyed my time with it. :coffee-blob:

Fairly close to the end of Lords of the Fallen, well one of the endings. I think there are 3.

When I started the game I was somewhat surprised when they started talking about the Rhogar and Adyr. I hadn't followed the development, so maybe it was all known, but the fact that the setting is the same as the first one came as surprise to me.
I kind of figured that they would want to just purge the first game from everyone's memory, but I guess they thought the world and the setting was good so why not.

However
when you talk to Anders the first time at the beginning and he's like "I'm of Antanas bloodline and he was killed by a lowly criminal" or whatever, and I'm like wait, isn't that kind of what happened in the first game. :thinking-blob: So I figured it must have happened eons ago in the game's universe.
Then tens of hours later when I had forgotten that that conversation even happened, in a cutscene with the Iron Wayfarer you hear the rune of Adyr whisper "Harkyn", and again I'm like wait, that's the name of the meathead player character from the first game? So Harkyn is Iron Wayfarer and I guess this is game is indeed a direct sequel despite dropping the 2 from the name and doesn't seem to take place that long after the events of the first game.

Just kind of surprising all around, and a bit weird to be honest. It would be kind of cool, if Harkyn had been an interesting character or if the event of the first game had left any kind of impression. Literally the only things I remember from that game are Rhogar, Adyr, Antanas and Harkyn, and they cover all that here.
So now I'm kind of curious if there's more. I think I need to check a few youtube videos of the first game, some cutscene compilation or whatever to see if there was anything else there that's referenced here.

Finished Witch on the Holy Night before I went to bed last night and it was wonderful. My first Type-Moon VN and I'm glad I finally took the plunge. I will probably do some wrap up on the extra scenarios to clean up some of the Steam achievements.

Started Mullet Mad Jack as well. This game is frantic and exciting. The gameplay loop is pretty addicting, trying to get through levels as fast as possible and experiment with the different weapons and upgrades. I will be playing more of this one over the weekend.

Bought Arctic Eggs to play this weekend as well. I love weird experimental indie games, and I wanted to support these devs.

I finished Crow Country. Awesome little game that was worth the 20 bucks I paid.

I also beat Malenia and put ER on the back burner until the DLC comes out as I don't want to start a NG+ cycle.

Going to start Lost Odyssey this evening.
