I don't understand why they use the old engines but, whatever works. DUSK is a Unity game but gets the look and feel down pretty damn well and I imagine its dev liked having more modern tools and workflows over going back in time for that stuff (unless these guys made new, easier to use level editors and stuff?). Still, whatever works to get some good ol FPS mayhem. This looks a bit too Quakey for my liking actually, still cool though, I'm totally getting it. Probably.

I'm really digging this resurgence of old-school shooters, as I've recently really gotten into them. This looks great!

I personally just have no nostalgia for that kinda graphics or style of FPS game... but it sure looks cool for what it is and wish them the best...
how did 3D Realms stay afloat all this time :thinking-face:

Consider me interested. I hope it has better variety than Quake 1; the environments in that game got old pretty fast, given that every level looked the same.

From what Kurt Russell told me yesterday, Interceptor (the ones who tried to remake Duke3D) bought 3D Realms after it went under.

Yeah Interceptor bought the 3DRealms name and the rights to old games, Gearbox still owns Duke Nukem, hence the remake being canned, its not the same company as it was back in the day.

Game looks awesome

Is it the same team that made ROTT?
same company Interceptior renamed to Slipgate ... tehy basically became 3D Realms ... but seems like team that does this is heavily consisted of big quake modders
Wrath: Aeon Of Ruin bears a strong family resemblance to the original Quake, which makes sense considering it’s being produced by KillPixel, a crew of veteran Quake mappers and modders using the tools they’re familiar with.
.....
Wrath looks like a fast, bloody tunnel-crawl shooter in the vein of Quake, but with a few mod cons. For starters, it’s looking nicer, thanks in part to them tapping Daniel “Chillo” Wienerson, who has been remastering Quake’s original 3D models

Among Wrath’s crew are Jeremiah “KillPixel” Fox, Roman “Skacky” Barrilliot (who also produced a great level in my recent Thief fan-mission roundup), Marcus “muk” Hayes and Gavin “FifthElephant” Edgington who worked on the excellent Arcane Dimensions.
Wrath: Aeon of Ruin is a new retro FPS built on Quake’s bones

This reminds me that I need to finish Dusk.

This looks fun, I like this revival of old style FPS.

I bought a Voodoo 1 as a kid (it wasn't a super card at that moment, but I didn't have a lot of cash, and I had a 2d card, so it was useful for a while). That thing was the largest video card I've ever owned.

it wasn't a video card :P it was an accelerator ... you still needed a video card to use it ;)

I do like 3D Realms hiring people from the mapping scene for things like this and Ion Maiden. There's a lot of unrecognized talent there, especially with the people on Quaddicted.
The engine looks like it's getting some serious upgrades for this, likely an even more enhanced version of the Quakespasm sourceport that's become standard for Quake modding.
Centered weapons or riot.

I'm really liking the trend of fast-paced old school shooters looking like they're from the 90s. I also especially like that this and Ion Maiden is going back and actually using the original engines (albeit in updated form, but still).

Same. It's fun to see just what new ideas and techniques can be squeezed into those old engines

You can do anything if you put your mind to it!

I love posting this trailer. That's Doom 2. Good old Idtech 1. I mean it's based on the 2005 source port GZdoom which has a ton of new features and is basically a whole new engine. But I like saying it's Doom 2 because it makes it more impressive. It's sort of like how Titanfall is based on the Source engine

Wrath is looking good. I know some of them worked on Quake: Arcane Dimensions and that is excellent so I have high hopes for this. (And Prodeus!)

I still have a fully functional Windows 95 PC in storage (Pentium 100 complete with a Riva 128 + Voodoo 1). I wonder if this game would run on that machine.

well they DID announce 3dfx support ... ;)

(no, really)

I've been watching it, but that PAX footage really blew it out of the park for me. Exactly what I love. They have at least one Arcane Dimensions person, I think ad beats every single FPS released in the last... decade?

Looks great but maybe 5 levels too little for the full release? I'll see how big the first two are I guess.

Also the artifacts sound like just combat geared stuff, I was hoping for extra skills to open new areas a la Powerslave.

Oh well, it's still good we're getting such games even if they won't surpass the cream of the crop and absolute best ever games, it should be good fun.
