The setting is the northern sea Obelia Bay, which is made up of countless islands big and small. After completing his adventures in the Ancient Kingdom of Ys, young adventurer Adol Christin encounters a maritime people known as “Normans” in this new land. Who are they? And who are the “Griegers,” immortal undead who attack humans…?

The battle system used up until Ys IX: Monstrum Nox has been drastically revamped! The new “Cross Action” system allows the player to fight using two modes according the situation. In the speedy “Solo Mode,” the player controls one character with the help of automatic attacks and support from their partner. In “Combination Mode,” the player can simultaneously control a series of actions for both characters to take on formidable foes in back-and-forth combat.

Exploring the Vicking Age in the world of Ys sounds neat. A bit strange that in this world this is happening at the same time as the Roman Empire being active and still around.

Downunder.
Couldn't care less about Vikings, but let us see first whether Dogi is back on the menu.

Also the ship battles mini-game could be neat, I guess.

This looks cool. Graphically it doesn't look as good as Kuro no Kiseki, but that was expected since Ys seems to want to focus on rendering larger maps than Kiseki. The screenshots are from the PS4 version, but you can already see some visual sacrifices like the texture quality and the lack of anti-aliasing (Kuro had some form of AA, and both games use the same engine).

Either way, this is interesting, and I'm looking forward to seeing gameplay footage and fully understanding how the new combat system works.

Not sure if this was posted elsewhere but we finally have some gameplay footage:

Footage from 2:26 to 4:50 runs quite poorly at around 15-25fps (presumably on a PS4, as indicated by the button prompts), but the rest of the footage is pretty much a locked 60fps. Although the environments are underwhelming and not really much of an improvement over Ys VIII, which was developed for the PS Vita almost 7 years ago, the gameplay looks impressive, particularly the hoverboard sections.
