Nah to me it is the equivalent of playing as Kassandra. I want that ish in this. I need to Watch Vikings already @_@

no, no ... of course it was nothing like just choosing a character at the beginning and then playing as them throughout the entire game, naturally

but since they're apparently doing co-op again (and it looks like you'll be able to co-op most stuff in the game) i'm sure they'll let people choose again

Cool. A character creator would be aces though. My viking queen gonna bust some skulls >=3

AC Vikings sounds nice. No idea how good co-op is in this series, since I'm playing them all alone, but it could be fun.

fuck, i wish ... but that's probably not happening ... not yet, at least

they only had it in AssUnity so far ... and it wasn't great ... it was just relegated to its own set of missions ... you couldn't do any of the story or even side missions in co-op

Not yet? What year is this, 2009? A character creator goes a long way, and the wya the description of the game sounds, a character creator would work well for the game's concept.

Hoo boy, it's going to be even much bigger than Odyssey, isn't it? I love open world games, but these games are just too big. I never explored everything in the previous 2 AC games. Exploration is not rewarding either.

I guess I'm skipping this one at least at launch.

I've seen some people arguing the screenshots are modded Mount & Blade. If they are legitimate leaks, remember that Ubisoft games fairly consistently "leak" because Ubisoft paid someone to leak them. The AC: Origins leaks? Those were planted.
Jesus Christ, are EVER getting an AC game set in Japan??
Ubisoft management decided that Japan wasn't worth it several years ago. That decision is unlikely to change anytime soon. There's also the idea of setting a game in China, which Ubisoft won't be touching with a 10 foot pole because Chinese politics. They'll do stuff like Chronicles China but an actual AC game with actual political stuff in it involving China is a massive no-no. Same reason Sam Fisher isn't gonna be airdropping into Chinese labor camps in the next Splinter Cell game.

Why did Ubi decide this? First I'm hearing of it?

Absolute bummer 😣

not like it'll be coming to steam on release anyway (if ever) ;)

... or Asia in general (Chronicles doesn't count)

and no, probably not ... because reasons

yeah, of course they're all planned ... at this point i don't think anyone still actually believe they are legitimate leaks :P

Why did Ubi decide this? First I'm hearing of it?
There's been so many "legit" Ubi leaks that they all blur together in my head. One 2016 leak which also explained why Prince of Persia is dead -- Ubi don't want to pay royalties -- did mention that "The people in charge seem to think the mechanics don't work in that setting."
yeah, of course they're all planned ... at this point i don't think anyone still actually believe they are legitimate leaks :p
To be fair, the reason we know Ubisoft plant leaks is because other (insightful) leaks which claimed to not be plants talked about how Ubisoft plant leaks. Like, I don't think this leak was a plant. /v/ - Video Games » Thread #322505836 This is the leak that told us all about the Witcher 3-inspired direction the series has taken over the past two games.

I'm calling fake (on the screens, maybe the info is good). I don't think they go through that process with assets unless this is random prototyping with whatever semi-fitting thing they happened to have on hand? The ancient Origins (or was it Prince of Persia which turned into Origins) leak looked way more well realized than this even though that was years before release (rather than just one year away, or a couple if we assume the screens are older). It looks like a Mount&Blade level indie thing visually. Why even go through adding "detail" like the grass if they're just gonna overhaul 100% of it by release just to prototype stuff?

While I would love to play a game that takes place "back home" but not sure what the hell one is going to do? I mean there is a reason I moved away, it's all damned endless forests there!

Co-op... :(

If this is true they're trying to get ahead of that god of war ragnarok hype train lol. I still really hate this setting for an AC though, really wish it would have gone to caesar-era Rome like the leaks said.

This all sounds great to me. If it's legit, I see myself picking this one up at launch. Have been having grand ol time with Odyssey.

Assassins Creed is my guilty gaming pleasure, though I have to say: Origins was a huge improvement over Syndicate and Odyssey was a nice improvement over Origins.
This one sounds like it could improve over Syndicate and more world exploration sounds great to me. I also like the Vikings show and the setting in general. Now I need snow... please have snow.

I hope it's not this, i kinda hate vikings stuff, loved Odyssey so i can take a pause from the franchise if the leak is true.
Maybe one day they'll portray an ancient China/India/Asian continent and i'll die happy.

even if this leak isn't true - it'll still DEFINITELY be Vikings .... that much has already been pretty much confirmed ... sorry

Good thing it is slated for 2020. I'm barely 8 hours deep in Origins, and I still have to play Odyssey x_x

same .... i might be like 10h into Oranges ... but yeah ... haven't even started playing Odyssey yet

I preferred the idea of playing during the roman era to be honest, but oh well, Vikings could be good as well. I'm currently listening to The Saxon Stories by Bernard Cornwell after already reading the first 8 books over a year ago, so I'm not against this setting either.

Anyway, if this comes out on Steam, I'll buy it. The AC series is one of my guilty pleasures and I really liked the last 2 games. And by 2020 I should even actually finish Odyssey!

Do vikings lend themselves to the kind of gameplay the series is known for? I'd love to see them tackle raids on villages/coming to North America, but I don't see longhouses as being very parkour friendly.

Regarding AC: Japan, I think that is reserved for the critical 'break in case nobody gives a shit for AC anymore'.

it almost certainly won't :(

I hope that by next year the Epic name will be hated enough that even Ubisoft might take notice and care to release their games everywhere.
I understand that they might actually count on the epic store not being an interesting choice and so having more players using Uplay directly, but I hope that their next few releases will see a decline on their PC business.

I for sure won't buy the next AC title if we don't get a reasonable choice on where to buy it.

I'm not even sure AC: Odyssey can be finished.

Someone managed it!
After 150 hours I still haven't completed any of the main quest storylines nor explored the entire world (they're not helping adding new viewpoints around the map). But one day I'll complete it for sure!

For reference, it took me 100 hours to 100% Origins.

we can only hope

holy cow ... well i'm DEFINITELY not going to 100% that game, that's for sure, lol :P

but i do want to finish the story mode at least

I'm not overly excited about the setting of this one. It's just doesn't feel like a theme that would work for an AC game.

Vikings are cool and all... but I just don't have it in me after nearly 150 hours in Odyssey. The mountain of """content""" in these games is staggering these days, and it just isn't all that rewarding to slog through it. 😩

.... plus no Steam.

Origins is my first time actually playing more than a few hours. I am being burnt out of the repetitiveness so I stopped playing as much and been sticking to main story. I tried Unity, didn't like it. If I know it may get more interesting later, I may try it. The controls are also annoying, not pressing anything and character likes to climb everything.

I guess we can pretty much declare that Skull & Bones is cancelled.

I heard that some people had fun times with the co-op in Unity.

Way of the Samurai? Tenchu? Samurai Warriors 9 (And a few spinoffs) Those Yakuza spin-offs? Jade Empire? Red Ninja? Several dozen visual novels if you want the story? I want to say XZR, but I think that's mostly West Asia. And, I think I'm forgetting a few others.

I preferred the idea of playing during the roman era to be honest
There really is a lacking amount of non-RTS games dealing with the Roman/Byzantine Empire.

I love open world games, but these games are just too big. I never explored everything in the previous 2 AC games. Exploration is not rewarding either.

Unless you're writing a review or just want to beat the game just to say that you beat it, why are you still playing them then?

Ship combat being toned down is a huge plus for me since i think its one of the worst things in the game and I was worried this one would focus more of the ship than odyssey does. Shame that the first civ stuff is taking a back seat again though cause thats one of my favorite elements about the franchise

I had more fun with the ship combat in Black Flag tbh. No idea why, it just didn't work out in Odyssey imo. It feels to fast, ships turn to quick, there is nearly no strategy involved. It is too "arcady". Black Flag wasn't a simulation either, but it somehow worked better.

I also agree with the first civ stuff. I love it too! I also wish they'd make a good present day part again. AC1 and 2 were so good in that regard.

yes, i'm aware ... i played most of those ;)

none of them are AssCreeds, though ... that's the problem

In story, gameplay, where? And, if it's the gameplay, are you favoring the free-running, the stealth, the (recent) RPG nature of the series, what?

the present day story (yes, really)

and the universe in general

i'm not saying all those other games are bad ... or that i ONLY want new AssCreeds to be set in Asia ... i'm just saying that it would be nice if they actually did that, at least once, that's all

Just reached the second DLC area in Odyssey and my mouth dropped.
This is why we need more and not less first civ stuff

Only open pics if you don't care about location spoilers, if you played AC:Origins you kinda know anyway.

reddit leak? this time

The game was codenamed kingdom but now is called Ragnarok. Release fall 2020 on both old and new gen. Reveal during the playstation event on feb. Viking setting, c. 800 BC. Map includes Scandinavia and a big part of England, including London and Plimouth. Choice between a woman and a man, but there's no impact on the story, that is the same. Protagonist, woman or male, is called Jora, and become an Assassin during the game. Brotherhood system is back, with recruitable npcs. You can still use a boat to travel on sea, but there's less naval combat than black flag or Odyssey imo. Story-wise, the game is focused on a revenge quest, with a big part of first civilization story. Realms like asgard or Jottuneim can be visited in the game, mythical beigs such as Odin or Loki play a big part in the story, as well as the Ygdrassil. Game has a present day part but, as much as Origins or Odyssey. It will conclude the present day storyline. gameplay is the same as odyssey, with improved mechanics and further rpg elements

I've ended up getting most of the recent AC games on Uplay because that's what CDkeys sells, so I don't mind getting Ragnarok there as well. I'm still not sold on the Viking theme but I'm sure I'll still play it.

I still need to play the DLC for Odyssey.

I'd like them to reinvent their combat system before doing an AC Japan though. Not asking for Sekrio, just for something better.
You also need to fight a giant octopus at one point in the game! That's a must do! ;)
