New week, new thread! What are you playing?

Continuing Assassin's Creed Origins. Feel surreal to see and even enter the pyramids in the game. One day, I will visit Egypt to see the real things.

I've completed MGS: Peace Walker earlier last week. Work has stopped me getting into a game until the weekend, but I'm gonna get started on Splatoon Raiders before the new Control releases.

I just completed Mina the Hollower. Took around 21 hours IIRC.
A good game overall -- it's obviously inspired by the GBC in terms of presentation and some gameplay, but also not afraid to do more modern things with the latter.

Play Crusader Kings II
Be me, some vassal of the Byzantine empire in what would be known as southern italy in the modern age
Don't have to worry about an entire realm, ammass my wealth in peace, plot people's death for fun
Some other guy creates a "we want indipendence" faction and I join it for fun too
Somehow emperor Kostantinos decides he doesn't have time for this shit and grants us indipendence. All right then
"Pick an Ambition: Become King of Sicily", sounds cool
Have to suck the pope's clean every single day to get those damn claims, years pass but little by little southern italy gets recolored to my color
Finally, Sicily is mine, the kingdom is born, ambition completed
In the meanwhile emperor Kostantinos died and I didn't even notice, entire Byzantine Empire is filled with revolts, "rebel states" every 3 counties
The entire "history" has already flown out of the window, meanwhile notice new option in the intrigue menu: study the classics. Let's pick the ones about the ancient greek religion
"The stories about these old gods and their intrigue is much closer to the chaotic state of the world we live in. Are we really sure the one true God is the real deal?" thinks my character
I'm indipendent so nothing stops me from recreating the Hellenic faith. Convert my spouse, "convert" my vassals into different vassals that follow this new belief
The Papal States are so close, and they're so small, while my kingdom gets more greek each passing year. Time to take all those stupid claims and shove them into the Pope's throat

Hmm, yeah I see now why the Paradox Grand Strategy games have their fans

Finished Mafia: The Old Country (plus its DLC) last weekend, and Mafia: Definitive Edition the week before that. Mafia has always been an anomaly in the open world space, in that the focus is firmly on getting you through a linear story designed to entertain you. The open world stuff is just fluff you can use to extend the play time if you wish, but theyre otherwise completely non-essential. I thought I would bounce off The Old Country because I'm unused to mafia type stories not set in an urban environment, but I was pleasantly surprised.

Very pleased overall, 2026 has been a great year for games that give you a good time for 15 hours or so, say what they want to say, then gracefully exit (007 First Light is an absolute standout in this category).
