I dont' play Battlefield but

The map editor will be using Godot? This is huge

also from the article:

Motherfucker this a great news, annoying my ass!
Yeah thats pretty cool! I might be little biased as a huge godot fan with almost 700 hours in it(that I have counted on one project)

Never have played Octopath, should I buy it for deck? Seems like a good deck game. But they are kind of pricey still. I want to hear from people who loved it and those who hated it!:)

Representing the "loved it" side. The consensus is to go straight for Octopath 2 and if you do love it then think about playing 1. Octopath 2 is the better game: better story, better combat balance, less grind, it's improved in basically every way. 1 is also good but I didn't finish it because I got stuck fighting a boss and had to grind significantly to level up so I tabled it. I'll try it again in the future now that I have a better understanding of its systems after playing 2.

Reasons to not play them would be: disliking jrpg story and gameplay tropes, disliking random encounters (I don't like them either and they did test my patience in 1), disliking hd-2d if you are a crazy person like Hektor, disliking having to swap characters in your party often because those on the bench don't level up as fast as the active ones (this was the reason I had to grind in 1, you will eventually need to use all the characters so keep them in steady rotation).

Phil Spencer's falling upwards is always baffling to me.
I don't think this is on Spencer, at least not the actual decision. He's still responsible for carrying it out, but those 9000 or there about were always going to lose their job. Microsoft wants to spend an absolute insane amount, like 80billion on AI infra and hence the need for the entire company to reduce spending to offset that a bit.
It's completely insane, but that's just the reality of the IT industry now. They all understand that the only way to keep producing infinite growth is to sell the idea that AI will magically create that growth. If you ask them how, they will throw some "AGI" smokebombs and run away like ninjas.

So, how does everyone like this new minigame they've introduced on Youtube? Since it's been out for a few months now I thought it's a good time to ask.

In case you missed it so far, the idea is that they sneakily put a useless and annoying section on various pages and interfaces every few weeks, and then your job is to try and create an AdBlock Origin rule (or similar) that is specific enough to always catch it but doesn't remove actually useful stuff. I like it quite a bit, but it's made almost a bit too easy by always labeling that section as "Shorts". Maybe they'll mix it up in the next season.

Well, looking at the Silent Hill F previews, game has gone from day 1 (depending on performance and reviews) to a fairly deep discount and mods for me. Especially when some people were struggling with the story mode versions of the bosses. It’s not a story mode if the bosses are still difficult.

Will wait and see but it’s been a long time since a preview has completely destroyed my interest in a game.

Reactions: Cacher and lashman

In a statement to Kotaku, a spokesperson for Valve said that while Mastercard did not communicate with it directly, concerns did come through payment processor and banking intermediaries. They said payment processors rejected Valve’s current guidelines for moderating illegal content on Steam, citing Mastercard’s Rule 5.12.7.

“Mastercard did not communicate with Valve directly, despite our request to do so,” Valve’s statement sent over email to Kotaku reads. “Mastercard communicated with payment processors and their acquiring banks. Payment processors communicated this with Valve, and we replied by outlining Steam’s policy since 2018 of attempting to distribute games that are legal for distribution. Payment processors rejected this, and specifically cited Mastercard’s Rule 5.12.7 and risk to the Mastercard brand.”

Rule 5.12.7 states, “A Merchant must not submit to its Acquirer, and a Customer must not submit to the Interchange System, any Transaction that is illegal, or in the sole discretion of the Corporation, may damage the goodwill of the Corporation or reflect negatively on the Marks.”

It goes on, “The sale of a product or service, including an image, which is patently offensive and lacks serious artistic value (such as, by way of example and not limitation, images of nonconsensual sexual behavior, sexual exploitation of a minor, nonconsensual mutilation of a person or body part, and bestiality), or any other material that the Corporation deems unacceptable to sell in connection with a Mark.”

Violations of rule 5.12.7 can result in fines, audits, or companies being dropped by the payment processors.

Having lived through the videos nasty crap in the UK I can see all the same BS in this recent fuckery. Even down to similar languages. The video nasties where decided based on the obscene publications act, but the act is based on a loosely defined definition of obscene.

Here we see the use of offensive? But the problem is, it doesn’t mean it’s illegal. It’s the same ill defined term with no full indication of what offensive is outside of something they don’t like. Who is the arbiter of what is offensive, where are the clear cut definitions of what is and isn’t allowed. What does and doesn’t have artistic merit.

Plus it’s the weasely use of words. While probably correct in the most technical form doesn’t mean they didn’t indirectly push the other companies to pressure valve.

One shred of joy I take from this is I don’t believe Visa, Mastercard, or Collective Shout where quite expecting the pushback people are giving them. I think this can be seen in the fact that they have released statements.

The statement from Valve serves as a nice "fuck you" to MasterCard, openly calling them out as liers. I don't think MasterCard will revert their stance anytime soon, but it is a good first step that they feel the need to speak up. They can't publicly defend their stance on enforcing censorship of legal content. Of course, just being publicly embarassed is not enough. They need to revert and be forced to go back to the status quo, and that will take a lot more pressure still.

Looking at the OP it still remains ridiculous how many notable games are being made (and thus how many will fail to turn profit). The industry is lot bigger than its audience can sustain.

Anyway, for me, Mafia is preordered already (love this IP since 2002) and MGS remake will likely get purchased once it gets to 35 euro level.

Never heard of the Echoes of the End game until this thread, but it looks pretty good.

I played Octopath 2 via gamepass, thought it might become my second JRPG (first and only one I finished has been FF15).
Unfortunately, after playing some 5 hours I uninstalled it, because despite liking the cute graphics and nice music, I hated the amount of random encounter combat, the combat system, story did not really grab me and the cute graphics is anti-immersive for me.
This is however all purely subjective, I trust that it is a great game for people who like this stuff.

Octopath for me definitely feels like it’s composed of several different varieties of Marmite.

You kinda need to love them all, or the whole thing falls apart.

Personally I love the visuals, the writing is charming, and I love the JRPG mechanics that are easily cheesed. It presses the right buttons and keeps me going for dozens of hours without getting bored.
